Time in Madison, Alabama

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

I had to wait to post this until after Laura's B-day.

but her Birthday was Sunday. Eighteen! How did that happen? We have set-up some guidelines, but are giving her much more freedom with her choices.

Now for her cards. One from Dad and one from moma. The scalloped cards are cut at 5 1/2" from the Paisley cartridge, page 48. It is a perfect A2 fold. (4.25x5.5 card)
The large hearts are a Martha Stewart punch and Birthday Girl from Storybook with the shadow.

Dad's card was a copy of a card on Cardz TV with Mary--thank you Mary--this was PERFECT for my Laura--from her dad--a history there! The shoes are from Paisley cartridge--so easy to layer. The saying I got from Mary. The saying is: 'Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she can conquer the world'. I love it! Dad wrote he's given her what he could, the rest is up to God. or something like that! He's been one of the world's best!

My girl is her own person--loves to dress up.....and down! She loves cupcakes and we have a new cupcake shop here in Madison. Gigi's--and she picked out here own assortment for her Birthday Celebration. VERY GOOD!

Her card had 'Birthday Girl' from Storybook. And a cupcake and girl skull (with pink bow) from another new cartridge, Rock Princess. The surprise is the University of Alabama color scheme. Bear Bryant black houndstooth and Crimson red. Roll Tide!!!

Thanks for looking. Leave those comments--love them!

I'm back to crankin' out cards....

and got a great idea to use this ministry closer to home.

My mother-in-law has never driven a car, and lives in St. Louis. My father-in-law is dealing with a lot of health problems and can't drive a car anymore. My brother and sister-in-law live probably about 25 miles away and my sister-in-law works full-time. My 'b-i-l' is dealing with health problems himself. We just got our Birthday cards stuck in with Laura's bday presents! Why--because she couldn't get out to go shopping for cards. My 'm-i-l's' bday was Sept 16 and I made some cards for her--one from Terry and I and one from Laura. She was almost crying when she told Terry they where the most beautiful cards she had ever gotten. The light came on! I would make her an assortment of card and send her some stamps, so she can keep in touch. Personnal contact with people (not Myspace-Facebook or email) has demenished and as a geneoligist that concerns me for future generations. So I have another mission. More cards must be made!

Yup, a new cartridge. Preserves! Luvin' it! A dear friend had hip surgery a few months ago and now a new knee! She's such a 'peach' so what better card!

Her daughter is dealling with some of her own serious health problems, so thought I would send her 'a bunch' of luv! (get it--a bunch of grapes--a bunch of luv!) Again from the Preserves cartridge.

Yeah, another new cartridge, Simply Charmed. So cute, and this is such a cute easy card. I added some bling on the wheels. I got the brads with the brad 'opener' on HSN on craft day and I would have paid twice that much for it! I have arthritis in my hands and this thingy opens up the brads soooo easy! Love it!

My last card I made little--like a gift card tag--but am thinking about making this my Christmas card--yeah another new cartridge, Christmas Cards!

Been a crazy week....

But my daughters 18th Birthday is Sunday and I really want to make a very special card for a very special girl.

I've never done a tri-fold and found this really cool card with a pop-up on it.

It's stamped--but of coarse I have a lot of ideas for my Cricut cuts, but you've got to see this card!

I've got some things to post--so chekc back later!

Finished the cards I was hired to make!

It's not as much fun as u would think! Now I get to do what I want to do! Actually, I'll be making cards for a friends fund-raising auction....but I feel this is what I need to do next.

So here are the cards I made. Dear hubby helped me with the birthday card for the guy in the Navy. Used the Stand and Salute cartridge on this one.

I had some wavy 'foil-like' paper that I just had to use--so found a boarder with little boats and water--and I think it works!

I like the way the frame looks and cut it in blue and white and just used the white hat--"lightly" inked around it so it wouldn't get lost in the phase. The button in the right top corner I pick up in a pack a long time ago. I came close several times to throwing it out--but it has and anchor on it and worked great.

The other birthday card is one for a guy that has a birthday on Halloween! I used the layout and cut-outs that Mary at Cardz TV made last year. The cartridge used was Paper Doll Dress-up. I added the google eyes in the background--thought that gave it a 'spooky' look too!

I don't remember where I got the 'happy birthday-the 50 candles or the cup cake' If I find them later I will update!.

Both these cards are made 8 1/2 x 5 1/2--and had to make lots of adjustments on my sizing.

Hint: Use cute buttons for accents--just use scissors or wire cutters to cut off the hooping thing on the back--and a extra tip--put your hand and button and scissors/wire cutters in a bag--so if it goes flying off--it's in the bag and you don't have to go looking for it! I use a large (gallon?) zip-lock top bag. Sometimes I have to use a nail file to smooth the back down to flat.

Remember--I thrive on comments!!!!

Until next time!!

A Christmas Card and

a card that a lady is buying from me.

This is the Christmas Tree (curlee!) on the Christmas Cartridge. I got the layout idea from a catalog. I used the retired Martha Stewart punch 'Branch". It has become one of my favorites. I added silver to the tips of the branches with some new silver highlight pens I got at Hobby Lobby. Really made it pop!

This is a larger card than I usually make, but she wanted it big. The flowers are from the Sweet Treat Cartridge and the leaf is from the Accents Essentials. The vase is from the Walk in my garden and the tag from the Bags, Tags, Boxes and More. I had a lady bug button that I removed the back part of it. I put some jewels from Michael's in the middle because it looked blank.

The inside has a verse I found online. The corners are from a Martha Stewart set--I just used the corner punch on all layers. The Butterflies are also a Martha Steward set with 3 stamps and the punch. I added glossy accents to make it pop!

I got part of my job done...

I got all 12 of the "R" note cards done.

I tied the bow with my new bow-easy! And yup--pretty easy--but most of all--took most of the stress away!

I made the box with the Martha Stewart Scoring pad. I love it. So much cheaper than the Scor-Pal (which I also have) and has the measurements for boxes and envelopes--so cool!

Lid of box and cards (12 plus envelopes). Made the envelopes with Beyond Birthdays cartridge.

Added a little bling with my Irock!

I used the Storybook cartridge for the R (short) and also the scallop.

I'm busy....

but wanted to get these posted!

I am making a couple of Birthday cards for my mother-in-law and need to get them finished, but have a new FAVORITE cartridge. I never (unless it's an exclusive--like HSN) pay full price--I buy online or ebay....but HAD to have the Lacy Labels from Walmart! I'm so glad I did! I can see me using this alot in my card making.

I've been asked to make cards for a friend who does missionary work in other countries and she's having a silent auction--so I'm making cards for her.

Dear hubby sold one of my cards at work and now have a lady that wants a birthday card and some note cards.

I'll post more when I get caught up!

You've just got to go here!

I have a Cross punch and the flowers are cut from the Cricut, and I'm just starting, but the pictures don't do them justice! Terry, DH, got me the embossing tools at Hobby Lobby, 3 in the pack for $3.99 (I think--not expensive at all) and I went to town. Had a 50% coupon for Michaels and was going to get the 'heat' machine (like the hairdryer) but they were out--got a raincheck instead. When I get that, I'm going to do some experimenting!

Making flowers I love this lady's website. She is just full of hints & tips to help us out. Click on Making Flowers and it will take you to her website. Love her site!

These are just cards....

that where in me and I wanted to make. I was going to put trees behind the snowman...but I made him too BIG! I love the blue paper for his sweater. It has a pearl shine to it. I got some packs marked $5 at our Big Lots. I don't get to to there much because it is way north in Huntsville and just about have to just plan a trip to go there! I guess I'm going a little "Wild" with my dashes and dots--but just LOVE them! I got some plastic snowflakes on one of my visits to St. Louis at Archivers! LOVE that store--good thing ones not close here! Used one inside bottom right corner too--gave a little pop!

Wanted to make the cup cake card because of the little cup cake on the inside of the card. It's and EK punch (2 to a set) top and bottom! It was marked down to $2.99 at my Target (sorry--I got the last one) and thought is would be so cute! Laura has a teacher that has a B-day tomorrow--so I'll give it to her for all the kids in the class to sign--she's the drama teacher! She'll love it!

This is the most awesome and hardest card I've made...

It is for a very amazing woman who is battling cancer...and it's spreading....but God is BIGGER than cancer!

So for her is this her card. With my love and prayers! She has a great reward waiting for her, but her grandson and my daughter are not ready to say 'see you later' yet. I just pray God will delay her departure from us.

The pictures do not do show the detail. It has 3 frames and layers of vines and flowers. The verse I got from a yahoo group I'm in and it is perfect!

I used so many cartridges, I will try and remember.

I think the frames came from Accent Essentials, the viney thing came from Home Accents, the flower from Pagoda, the Faith from Home Accents (?) and the Angel from Joys of the Seasons.

I didn't write them down the cartridges--and it took me all day to detail the flowers, layer them and ink all the edges....but she is worth all my time.

Please keep Dolores in your prayers. She is such an awesome Christian lady.

Oh, I had the best Birthday ever.....

spent the day just talking and using my new lil Cricut and working on a card (hubby asked me to make) and eating two of my very favorite things---pizza and cheesecake with cherries! And then a beautiful handmade card from my best friend Shelly and presents--a birthday bag full of awesome papers and some bling ribbon and white ribbon with black pokadots (perfect--I had black ribbon with white pokadots--but not visa versa!)

And then the Pagoda cartridge that hubby got me was in the mail! And dd Laura took me to see the Eclipse (twilight series) movie after a wonderful shrimp dinner at our new Cheddars with hubby and daughter! Dear Dau got me the new book on cd of Stephenie Meyer (author of Twilight series) the short second life of bree tanner! Will be listening to that. She reads alot so I made her a rather big bookmark. She loves Japanese food and their culture--so this was off the new Pagoda cartridge.

And I finished a card Terry asked me to make for a fellow workers who's mother is in the hospital. I saw one like this on someones blog, and of coarse now I can't find who's! If it is yours, let me know and I will give a link and give you credit--I don't steal--I give credit where credit is due--and this is not my original idea. I did add some of my touches and a stamp on the inside. I really like how it came out and I think will make some extras to have just in case!

I got the flowers off of Sweat Treats cartridge and the vase off of Walk in my Garden cart. The leaves where a touch I added, from another new cartridge I just got, Accent Essentials. I added a tag too, from Tags, Bags, Boxes and More (which is being retiring and I advise everybody to get this--it is my go to when I need some special touches on a card!) and a stamp that says 'get well soon'. I added dots with my gel pen. Terry said she likes flowers, so that is why I made this one.

I forgot to mention that Shelly had printed off a Hobby Lobby & Michaels coupon, so before we met hubby for dinner, we ran (or I scooted -- I use a scooter!) into Michaels and I found the Butterfly stamp/punch of Martha Stewarts that I wanted--and some journaling stamps I have been looking for--never thought of looking in the Martha Stewart isle--always looking in the stamps isle! Duh! So I got 40% off my Butterfly punch/stamp. Three different stamps of Butterflies--Look at Laura's bookmark and you will see all three! I colored them in and I think they look cute!

Well, I might try and take some pictures of my new papers later.

Thanks for stopping by and I love comments!
